East Texas Medical Center

Situation

East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) Tyler is a regional referral facility at the center of a growing group of mini-systems throughout East Texas. Founded in 1951, it is designed to work with area hospitals to provide specialized treatment and diagnostic procedures. The MRI room was being retrofitted for an ETS-Lindgren RF epoxy floor system and a new MRI machine. The existing floor required re-leveling where the old MRI machine was installed. Before the ETS-Lindgren RF epoxy floor system could be installed, two floor areas required re-leveling at six inches and four inches respectively. ETS-Lindgren RF epoxy floor systems must be installed on a stable, sound underlayment to ensure the most effective installation.

Solution

ARDEX Engineered Concrete Repair Systems (ECRS) products were suggested to the project manager because their fast-drying qualities could meet the 28-day installation timeline. Brian Berry, a LevelMaster Elite® Installer, recommended ARDEX TRM™ Transportation Repair Mortar for the four and six-inch pours because it can be used at depths ranging from 1/2” to 4” neat, and up to 8” when extended with aggregate. ARDEX TRM™ is also fast setting, allowing foot traffic in just two hours.

As a final step, ARDEX K 301™ Exterior Self-Leveling Concrete Topping was installed. ARDEX K 301™ is walkable in as little as two hours after installation. ARDEX ECRS products where approved for installation by hospital officials and ARDEX Technical Services. ARDEX Healthcare and Education Architectural Specialist Cindy Adkins made sure specification requirements for the ETS-Lindgren RF epoxy floor system were met in a timely fashion and the installation by Advanced Leveling & Concrete Solutions was flawless.
